When in doubt, go with mp3- it’ll always work. They’re also universally accepted by other programs. mp3s are the most compressed file type, so they take up less space on your hard drive and are the quickest to upload.
YWP supports all three file types, and they all have different advantages. Go to file and you’ll see three export options: Export as wav, export as mp3, and export as ogg vorbis. Once you have something you like, EXPORT it to a file format that’ll work with other programs. In the next lab, you’ll edit out everything you don’t want. If you screw up, don’t pause or stop the recording, just say the line again. Click record, wait a beat (sometimes it takes a second to actually start), and begin reading. If it’s not your own, remember to source it when you post the recording on YWP. Now that you know the basics of recording, it’s time to start work on your project.
What if you want to record one long track in sections? Hit pause while recording when you need to stop to catch your breath/ talk to your mom/ punch a supervillain in the face, and click pause again to keep going. When you’re done recording, hit stop.Īudacity begins recording at wherever the cursor is, so if you want to record a new track after the first one, make sure the cursor is at the end. If your computer doesn't have a mic (or if you want better quality), you can buy a mic cheaply online or borrow one from your school or YWP. Hit record and talk into your mic to test.
